Dessert-y Queen Goes Green

Okay y'all, we’re a month and a half through the new year, and we’ve either been killing those resolutions, or hitting the struggle bus. My fitness goals got off to a rough start, but I’m finally hitting my stride, mostly after being inspired by the delicious vegan food and all the buff hotties I saw in LA (more on that trip soon, I promise!).

I’ve gotten my lazy butt back to the gym after a long hiatus, and now I’m working on getting the eating habits to somewhere that won’t completely destroy all the work I’m putting in. This protein smoothie is perfect for when my sweet tooth comes a-calling!

My dessert weakness is chocolate and peanut butter, and this green smoothie tastes more like a chocolate peanut butter milkshake, despite having a ton of healthy greens packed with vitamins. Of course you could just do the regular protein powder with water and a side salad, but why not sweeten the deal and have them all at once?!

Here’s how to make the ultimate chocolate, peanut butter, banana, power green smoothie:

Ingredients:

2 cups organic power greens (red and green chards, baby kale, and spinach that usually come prepackaged and ready to go)

2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk

1 spoon all natural peanut butter (go natural, I implore you! None of those nasty extra sugars or preservatives)

1 banana

1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use 100% whey protein that packs 27g of protein)

4 ice cubes

Directions:

Blend the 2 cups power green mix (you could also use spinach or kale by itself) with the almond milk until smooth, and then add the remaining ingredients. I tend to keep the ice cubes to a minimum because they always end up too chunky and it’s too hard to drink with a straw when there’s giant chunks of ice in the way.

The main issue I have had with making kale or spinach smoothies in the past has been that they taste like drinking straight up kale salad and it’s too chunky to swallow (lolz). I found that if you blend the greens and almond milk first, it gives you the smoothest consistency. The chocolate protein powder, peanut butter, and banana completely mask any kale or spinach taste that might linger, and despite the green color, this smoothie tastes like a straight up decadent milkshake! Even my dessert-obsessed boyfriend loves it! With the greens you’re getting a ton of vitamins A, C, K, as well as the protein from the whey.

I hope y’all are crushing your resolutions and living your best lives!

✌🏻 xoxo, Matt
